Movie Review: The Chronicles of Narnia

Good movie. The movie trailers are not misleading in any way. So, if you think you might like this movie, you probably will.

The CGI (Computer Generated Images) is well done. I'm a bit of a CGI snob. I notice when computer graphics don't seem to move right or appear to defy the laws of physics. I'm especially picky about character animations. The only time that I was really distracted by the CGI in this movie were in the first few minutes that the faun character was introduced. After the horrible scene where he shakes himself off from the cold, I was too engaged in the movie to notice any other failed attempts at ground breaking CGI.

The movie was entertaining, and well acted. Even the kids played their roles well. Again, I was only disappointed for a short while by the younger brother. I don't think it was anything about his acting that bothered me. It was the character that he was handed. He was given the Anakin Skywalker treatment. "You're evil for no particular reason. And, you're really conflicted about it. GO!"

Eventually, the role of the younger brother was reduced to face time and the pace of the movie picked up. The battle for Narnia begins: good action, good story, lots of talking animals.

If you're into fantasy fiction, this is a movie to see. Good for older kids, too. If you're trying to avoid teaching your young ones about the facts of life too early, be aware that there is a death scene (sort of) involving the lion. See the movie first to decide if it's ok.
