    We Should Invade Vietnam

Why is Vietnam the template applied by the MSM for every war we've had since? Obviously, when the press doesn't support our military actions, they need to cite a defeat in order to scare the public into thinking we're on the losing side. Isn't it great that there aren't more examples for them? The MSM could try to scare us by comparing every future war to the Civil War, half the country lost that one (and many of them are still mad about it).

I think we ought to go back to Vietnam, just to kick some ass. We should invade the country with everything we've got and annex is as the 51st state. Then, when the press starts to dredge up Vietnam they'll have to specify which war they're talking about. "You know, the Vietnam war that we lost. Not this latest one where we turned it into a giant parking lot and put in a Super Walmart."

What are the similarities between Vietnam and Iraq anyway, I've been trying to write a mental list:

    - Both were in the jungle? Nope
    - Communists? Nope
    - Military draft? Nope
    - Targets of opportunity chosen by comittee? Nope
    - Elvis in uniform? The king is dead
    - Hippies, Woodstock, CCR? Sadly, no. CCR is good tunes.
    - Vets come home and get spit on? Nope
    - Agent Orange, Napalm? No on the one, maybe on the other. I'm not sure.
    - Our enemies targeted our troops,
some of them used guerilla tactics? (DUH!)
    - Gunplay was involved? (DUH!)
    - Some people don't like the war? (DUH!)
    - The French bailed and left us to take care of it?

All except that last one are a given in any war, past, present or future. Some might argue that even the last point is in the very definition of warfare. There is no comparison between Iraq and Vietnam, other than to say both were military actions and we shot at each other. Anything else is a total reach of the imagination at this point.

Actually, the last IS all-but-given. WWI, WWII/Europe, Vietnam, Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom (I would have called it Operation Iraqi Liberation and made it all about the OIL). All had the French dropping the ball ammo and making a mess of it at one point or another (Iraq was a French protectorate, IIRC).

I really like that! Where is all the oil, by the way? Pretty soon, I think a gallon of gas is going to cost more than a pack of cigarettes. Can my car get 30 miles to the pack?
