Hackers Attempt to Spoil Great Idea
I apologize if you haven't heard about the "Million Dollar Homepage" yet. Gbradley reported about it quite some time ago.
Basically, a student in England figured out that he could make a million dollars by selling ad space on his home page for $1 per pixel (on a 1000 x 1000 pixel page). The idea worked. The kid is rich, and I'm really pissed that I didn't think of it first. Perhaps there's a market for the one billion dollar home page?
It's making headlines again, because hackers have tried to hold the site hostage. Apparently, some group of thugs launched a denial of service attack on the site because the owner wouldn't pay them $50,000. The attack worked, for a short time. And, now it would seem that the FBI is getting involved.
Nice try guys. You've only increased awareness of the site!
