I'd Throw Ann Coulter Under the Bus
I've been trying to formulate my opinion on Ann Coulter and Jessica McBride read my mind:
Sometimes, I think Ann Coulter is brilliant. Read her books. There are flashes of what she could be. If she would just restrain herself from going off the deep end. She does marginalize herself. She crosses lines that just shouldn't be crossed, and in doing so, she allows the Left to draw her as a parody of herself (fairly), and she obscures her own ideas. The stories are always about her, and not what she thinks. And that makes her far less effective and important. She doesn't need to go there. She just doesn't need to do it. She could be far more influential, if she'd give up the made-for-cable-news outrageousness schtick.
I've tried to read one of her books, hoping that in the absense of a token liberal she'd be able to finish a sentence. But, it was like reading a blog in book form: off page references everywhere and constant referals to Lexus Nexus. I bought your darn book. Why do I have to do homework?
For me, watching Coulter is as frustrating as trying to find a lost set of keys. She tosses out a lot of bad oysters in search of her Pearls of Wisdom.
She may be a smart and attractive woman, but she's always looking for a boxing match. Verbal fistcuffs are just so tiresome when both sides are chanting slogans off of bumper stickers.
