    Give a Guy Some Credit

A few weeks ago the Cheddarsphere threw a tantrum over the make-up of the guest panel at the inaugural Wispolitics Blog Summit. The majority of the complaints were centered around the perceived lack of "real bloggers," or people whose day job is not reporting.

I'm pointing this out because one of those guys with a day job has repeatedly stuck his neck out. The latest reporting at Real Debate Wisconsin scares me a little bit, actually. I think Fred is really taking a chance with his coverage of the Kurt Vlach scandal. The fact that he has approached media outlets and they won't touch his story says a lot about how hot this potato is.

Is Fred a pioneer for breaking news in the blogosphere, or is he crossing some thin line? I'm curious: why aren't more blogs talking about it? Is it too local? Too risky? Let's not leave Fred twisting in the wind. Give him some feedback if you've been following this.

Fred's doing a great job on this story. It is local political inside baseball, though, which makes it tougher for those of us outside of Racine County to really get involved with it. As for the Milwaukee Metro media, I'm not sure why they aren't at least touching on the story. I'm sure they would if Vlach held a statewide or countywide office. Perhaps that's it-he isn't high profile enough for them. I don't know.

It may be the nature of the position he's in. County party chairs of any stripe aren't really big fish outside their own county. There are probably fewer than three dozen people in Dane County right now who could tell you the story if they heard the name. May be twice that many who would claim to have heard the name at all.

It's just that, dammit, it's 2006 and people should know better than to act that way. You don't send pictures of your flag-wrapped pee-pee over the e-mail.

His actions define him. Time for him to head down the road.
