Go Fly a Kite
Whenever I checked email on my phone over the weekend, I was greeted by the headline "Pakistan Bans Kites." I thought it might be interesting blog fodder, and I never managed to follow up on it. Now that I've read the story at Mitchieville I'm extremely hacked off at myself for not looking into it myself!
Apparently, kite flying in Pakistan is a very competitive sport. People duel with kites. In order to get an edge, many contestants use wire, glass, or even chemicals embedded in their kite strings.
Thankfully, in this country our kids play violent video games instead.
- LAHORE, Pakistan - The death of a 4-year-old boy whose throat was slit by a low-flying kite string coated with glass has prompted authorities to forbid kite-flying in eastern Pakistan.
