Grumps Throws Down
This is why I like Grumps (The Happy Circumstance). He has a well thought post in response to my latest ethanol rant. Read his post carefully. There are a few good clarifications in there.
Two points that I'll admit to muddying the waters: MTBE and FFVs. The blend of gasoline that we burn in southeast Wisconsin is ultra-strength crap. It's not quite the same as the 10-15% blend being proposed. And, there are flex fuel vehicles that are SUPPOSED to be tuned to run on ethanol gas (and other fuels). One would expect that the engine problems I mentioned have been designed out... Probably.
I'm still not convinced that ethanol fuel is going to save the world, though. Remember, the farm lobby once made it illegal to possess yellow margarine in this state. In fact, if you or your family ever smuggled margarine into Wisconsin, I'd LOVE to talk to you on the podcast!

4 Amendments:
I've heard a few stories from my mom on smuggling margarine over. In fact, the neighborhood used to get together and they'd alternate who went down there to get it.
I blogged about it once here.
Fantastic, Nick!
It's still illegal to serve margarine instead of butter, unless requested? That's funny!
Yes I am a product of Margerine Smugglers. My mom frequently talks about it. And I think the law is still on the books. In restaurants they are always supposed to offer butter first. About 2 years ago the Journal reported that there were actually people ckecking up on restaurants to make sure they were offering butter. Believe it or not...
Grumps is an excellent poster, well versed and thought out. I enjoy readng his posts over at my place.
He usually visits at least once a day and leaves food for thought.
