Michael McGee Jr. is Only Half Nuts

As you know, Michael McGee Junior has a crazy plan to solve Milwaukee's cruising problem. I'm actually disappointed in him, because it's not a crazy enough plan.

McGee's plan is to use Miller Park as a cruising haven. Between twelve and four AM, cruisers can use the East lot (Gantner's Garden area) to play their radios and jump around, or whatever it is that cruisers do. The police would be there to supervise, apparently.

Now, obviously this plan won't work. You can't corral cruisers. They want to disrupt traffic to be noticed. It's all part of the thrill. I also think Mr. McGee is going to have a really hard time getting the word out to every last one of the cruisers.

But, the real problem with McGee's idea is that it won't cost enough. This is Milwaukee we're talking about. Under his plan, we pay for police and cleanup. If they open up a concession stand the plan might even be affordable. That's not the Milwaukee way! McGee's plan is hardly worthy of our consideration.

If Michael McGee Junior wants to gain support for his cruising counter-measures he'll propose that the city build a "cruising park" somewhere. An idea like that is guaranteed to be a winner! We might even need a new sales tax to pay for it.

It'll be great! I can see it now, an empty parking lot spanning for miles and miles... and you, dear taxpayer, paid for it. Thank you very much.

I don't want them at Miller Park ... but I can handle sending them to State Fair park, especially on the race track.

    Neither place will actually work.

My point is, at least we're not paying too much for a bad idea.
