Pink Slip Via Cell Phone
I should've spent more time blogging yesterday! Nick brought this up first. A girl was fired via text message in Whales.
Personally, I think the girl probably got what she deserved. If I had to guess, I'd bet she had a habit of emailing or calling in sick without actually speaking to a live person. I imagine that this manager was just returning the favor.
Sadly, you can't get away with this as an employer. In order to correctly fire an employee and avoid paying for unemployment or lawsuits you need to demonstrate a pattern of behavior. You almost have to have a timeline prepared of all the corrective action you've taken with this individual, even if they're doing something really wrong.
My hat is off to this manager for letting her have a taste of her own medicine. The only thing he could've done better: send her a picture message of her termination papers.

Just saw that. Sorry!
I wonder if any one got a pink slip on their blog?
In the unending pursuit of knowledge, I believe we should experiment with just such an idea, using the owner of this blog as the lab rat (excuse the expression). Documenting the backlash and political outfall of such a feat should provide greater insight into the human character and quench all of our thirsts for the unknown, for a day.
