Liberal Policy Failure, Field Report #1
What's so bad about recycling? Let's just say that I'm glad our state doesn't charge a deposit fee on aluminum cans!
Watch this video of "grandma" in Ontonogon, MI loading cans one at a time into this machine to get her ten cents back.
Watch here if the embedded video isn't working.
Holy cow! She may need to take a break for lunch.
Keep in mind, the political party that promotes this environmentally conscious tax/refund system is the same political party that claims the Republicans are punishing the elderly and stealing their right to vote.
How is grandma going to vote on election day if she's got three bags of aluminum cans to return? Just look at the woman in this video. Doesn't grandma have better things to do with the last ten years of her life? She's just spent an hour off her dialysis machine, feeding cans into a tiny hole to save a dime. I'll bet the arthritis really starts to kick in 'round about the middle of the second bag. Party of compassion, my fat fanny...

2 Amendments:
The Michigan $0.10/can deposit has been around for over 20 years... If I recall (I was but a lad growing up in the UP when it was enacted...), one of the main reasons it was enacted was due to littering. Within months of it starting, there was a significant reduction in cans and bottles on the roadsides.
And as a poor college student, that stash of cans at the end of the month was usually good for a 12-pack...
So, why stop there? Put a tax on everything, so that people will want to turn in their garbage.
Why not charge a $0.10 deposit on each cigarette, bubblegum wrapper, apple core, and condom? Aren't those littering the highway, too?
Why do I always have to be the one to show liberals that they're not being liberal enough?
