Truth: Stranger Than Fiction
This morning I heard another Doyle attack ad, claiming that Mark Green broke the law when he moved that $500k into his campaign. I thought to myself, "wouldn't it be funny if the State Elections Board made that ruling retroactive to the very day, hour, minute, and second of the transaction?"
No. It's not so funny anymore, because what really happened is frigging hilarious. There's very compelling evidence (as in verbatim emails) that the Doyle campaign was behind the SEB's ruling. Patrick is keeping an excellent run-down as this story develops in the blogosphere.
If you people on the left (like Xoff) still don't get why this is such a big deal, imagine if the state retroactively mandated E-10 gasoline back to January 1, 1969. You would have to provide receipts for all gasoline purchases since then. For any purchase that did not contain at least 10% ethanol, you would be fined $100 for breaking the law. Pretty ridiculous, right? ...Oh crap, I think I've just given Jim Doyle a way to raise revenue without raising taxes again!
If this decision by the SEB stands, I'm going to barricade myself in my house. I'm not about to live my life worrying that something I do right now might become illegal one day later and land me in hot water.
