Schwarzenegger Delivers a Much Deserved Poke in the Eye

I'm not sure that I like this.
SACRAMENTO, Oct. 2 - In the end, only one vote mattered.

Saying it ran "“counter to the tradition of our great nation," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill on Saturday that would have automatically allocated all the state'’s 55 electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate received the national popular vote.
On the surface it's a good thing. The decision to change or eliminate the electoral college should be made at the national level.

On the other hand, this movement is targeting a lot of traditionally liberal states. So who does it hurt? Wouldn't it be just too yummy if a close election (like the last two) swung toward the republicans instead of the democrats, only because the liberals managed to push this legislation through?

This is extremely short sighted thinking on the part of liberals who are still upset that Al Gore didn't get to stand at the wreckage of the World Trade Center and shake his fist at stuff or shed a photogenic tear for the fallen.
