Iran Ready to Stay the Course in Iraq

Note: The following is entirely satirical. If you don't understand the point, I'd challenge you to provide commentary on the subject that can't be found on a bumper sticker. You may also consider reading this, because the truth is often stranger than fiction

Amid speculation that the United States considering a less aggressive strategy in Iraq, the government of Iran has announced that they are prepared to fill the gap if the US begins to withdraw.

Said one unnamed (I made him up) official, high in the Iranian government, "the Iraqis are not yet ready to defend themselves. As their neighbor we could take advantage... er... act to fill the power vacuum, for the good of the Iraqi people, of course. We would hate to see our former rival crumble into chaos."

The official further explained that Iran, a country with obvious nuclear ambitions, would gladly continue the search for Iraq's WMDs. "We know that they had programs at one time. There are still people in the country who may know something about the technology. It would be a shame if all that effort went to waste... Death to Israel... Oops, I mean 'make love, not war.'"

The government of Syria agrees that Iran is the obvious choice to finish the job in Iraq. They have offered to assist if necessary, in order to see that Iraq becomes a shining pillar of democracy in the Middle East.
