November 22nd, 2007-9:52 am by sub2changeMy son is learning to walk. Yesterday, Kelly said he took three steps on his own. Just like with sitting and standing, once he started this new skill he wants to be doing it all the time. So, he’s developed a sudden interest in his walker.
The problem is, he doesn’t like his cheap, plastic walker. It falls over on him, and he doesn’t know how to right it. It only goes in a straight line, too, which means that we need to constantly turn him around in new directions. Cole doesn’t want to be held hostage by this toy, so he’s found a solution. He’s figured out that his Diaper Champ is mobile (on the hardwood floor) and can go any direction he wants. We can’t decide how to fight this battle. We know we can’t win it and he’s learning, but the Diaper Champ is the most germy thing in the room.
I suppose if Cole’s dad had his son’s creativity, he’d invent a substitute for the Diaper Champ and make millions on it. But, I don’t know much about molding plastic. Besides, kids will find a way to misuse any toy, and then those millions would need to go right back into recalls and lawsuits.
