Dear Winter,

February 29th, 2008-10:17 pm by sub2change

We seem to have a serious misunderstanding here. Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely impressed with all you’ve managed to accomplish this year. I haven’t seen snow mounds as tall as trees in so long that I was starting to believe that the snowfalls of my youth were larger simply because I was smaller.

It’s just that I can’t take any more of this. I know I’ve been griping that we never seem to have any more white Christmases. And, I’m sure you’ve heard me say that I’d really like to get some use out of the snowshoes hanging in my garage. But, I think you need to take a hint from Summer. I’m always promising that I’m going to ride my bike, too, or at least inflate the tires. But, you don’t see Summer hanging around and overstaying its welcome now, do you? Summer barely hangs around long enough for me to work on my watch tan.

Maybe you’re trying to convert some global warming alarmists. Well, I’ve got some bad news for you. It doesn’t matter what you do. They won’t be convinced. If you give us eighty degrees in January, that’s global warming. Minus eighty is “global climate change.” Even if Winter stayed exactly the same ten years in a row that would be bad too, because nature is supposed to have some variations. You can’t get through to them, we’ve been trying for years.

So, Winter, old friend, pal, buddy, piss off already. You’re burning through my wad like a Vegas hooker. I’m sick of cleaning up after you, too. There’s no place left to put all your crap.

Hugs and kisses,

Aaron

P.S. Lick my snowballs.

Trip To Madison

February 25th, 2008-5:00 pm by sub2change

Kelly read somewhere that the Madison Children’s Museum was free on Sunday, so we decided to check it out. When we got there, they charged us $5 each for admission. I assume this was the Madison definition of “free.”

Anyway, Cole had a good time while we chased him around. Everything there was a little bit beyond his age. Even the small child play area wasn’t exactly toddler safe. There are wooden stairs right in the play area! Later on, Kelly and I compared notes. We think that the COSI museum in Columbus has the most kid friendly play area we’ve seen so far. The Betty Bryne museum in Milwaukee is nice, too. If you can relax a bit and let the children run around it’s a good play area.

We ate lunch at State Street Brats (yummy). Look behind Cole’s water bottle, he’s having broccoli with those cheese curds and fries. He seemed happier with veggies, actually.

With daylight left we wandered into the capitol building, where we were greeted by many of Madison’s homeless. Nothing says “government happens here” like a big, hollow building occupied by people wandering around aimlessly in rags. I don’t think Kelly has been to the capitol before, and she wasn’t impressed.  On my next weekend stay in Columbus I’ll have to see if their capitol building gets the same treatment.

Progress In The War On Terror

February 23rd, 2008-8:33 am by sub2change

There’s some gun camera video posted at Mitchieville. You don’t usually get to see human targets being taken out. I imagine this will get pulled eventually.

They ought to load this video onto IPods and drop them into terrorist neighborhoods.

Out Wandering

February 21st, 2008-7:57 pm by sub2change

Tonight I went to the Texas Roadhouse in Columbus, wearing a pink shirt.

I don’t think I want to be reading any “missed connections” ads any time soon.

Blu-Ray Wins

February 19th, 2008-9:54 pm by sub2change

Sony finally won a format war. I can’t say I was rooting for Blu-Ray, because Sony has made such poor choices about their technology in the past.

They’ve done the smart thing with Blu-Ray, though, by not trying to hang onto the format for their own. In the past, they’ve apparently refused to allow other companies to make the media and/or the players. The decision spelled disaster for Betamax and Minidisc.

Can We Stop Talking About Hurricane Katrina?

February 19th, 2008-9:20 pm by sub2change

That was like almost three years ago. There hasn’t been another attack like it since then…

Wait… What the hell was I talking about again?

Dear Fidel Castro,

February 19th, 2008-9:01 pm by sub2change

I understand that you’ll be resigning as president of Cuba.

If the door does hit you in the ass on the way out you may take it with you.

Hugs and kisses,

Aaron

My podcast co-host is fleeing the state.

She’s had enough of this heat.
